Technologist Institute of Genetics and Biophysics Adriano Buzzati-Traverso (IGB-ABT) National Research Council, Italy
Tate’ Rosarita is responsible, since 2009, of the Integrated Microscopy Facility at the CNR Institute of Genetics and Biophysics ‘A. Buzzati-Traverso’ (IGB-ABT) in Naples. Rosarita got her degree in Biological Sciences in 1990 at the University “Federico II” of Naples and a PhD in “Molecular and Cellular Genetic” at the same University in 1997. She has got a wide experience in the fields of microbiology, developmental, molecular and cellular biology. She is specialized in microscopical (optic and electronic) and imaging techniques. Since 2000 she was a tutor of several university students and collaborated with University tutors in the training of PhD student. Her studies have been published on different international scientific journals as article and review. She is founder and coordinator of a network of communication and dissemination of 27 CNR institutes in Campania (CNR-CREO, Campania network outreach), she participates at different national dissemination events and she is coordinator of WP3 in S.T.R.E.E.T.S. (Science, Technology and Research for Ethical Engagement Translated in Society) project, European Researchers Night
Talk Title: Basic and advanced microscopy to study symbiotic and pathogen microorganisms
The aim of the presentation will be to provide a short overview of how microscopy technologies have evolved to study microorganisms, their interaction with other organisms and with the environment and to demonstrate how microscopy is of fundamental importance for the development of research projects in these field, in particular how, when and why to use electron microscopy in microbiology, even in modern times. Several examples of research projects aimed at studying both symbiotic and pathogenic bacteria will be covered.
