New Publication Alert: Lab-on-a-Scalpel Innovation

New Publication Alert – Lab-on-a-Scalpel Innovation

We’re excited to share a groundbreaking publication from our #Know4Nano partner, the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (UCT Prague).

Title: Lab-on-a-Scalpel: Medical Tool Incorporating a Disposable Fully 3D-Printed Electrochemical Cell Promoting Drop-Volume Chemical Analysis in the Operating Theater
Published in: Analytical Chemistry

This innovative research introduces a fully 3D-printed electrochemical cell embedded in a surgical scalpel—a compact, disposable Lab-on-a-Scalpel device designed for real-time chemical analysis during surgical procedures.

Key highlights:
✅ Real-time electrochemical monitoring during surgery
✅ Detection of epinephrine with a LOD of 0.13 μM
✅ Accurate measurements even in artificial blood samples
✅ Multiple operating modes: drop-volume, stirring, and different voltages
✅ Low-cost fabrication using a desktop 3D printer
✅ Potential as an essential tool for robotic-assisted surgery

Congratulations to the brilliant team at UCT Prague for this impressive contribution to point-of-care diagnostics and medical sensor technology. We are proud to have such outstanding partners in the Know4Nano consortium.
