Know4Nano Research Presented at ICN2 Seminar Series
On June 10, 2026, Dr. Nikola Ž. Knežević, Full Research Professor at the BioSense Institute, University of Novi Sad, delivered an invited lecture at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) in Barcelona, Spain.
Hosted by Prof. Arben Merkoçi and the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group, the seminar entitled “Development and Applications of Nanostructured Si-Based Materials” provided an overview of advanced porous silicon-, silica-, and organosilica-based nanomaterials and their growing impact in biomedical and analytical sciences.
During the lecture, Dr. Knežević presented recent advances in the design, synthesis, and functionalization of nanostructured materials characterized by high surface area, tunable pore architectures, and versatile surface chemistry. Particular attention was given to their applications in targeted drug delivery, biomedical imaging, cancer therapy, sensing technologies, and environmental protection.
The seminar also highlighted recent developments in porous silicon- and silica-based sensing platforms and their potential for the sensitive and selective detection of biologically and environmentally relevant analytes. In addition, the lecture served as an opportunity to present research activities supported by the Horizon Europe Twinning project Know4Nano (Grant Agreement No. 101159710).
The event fostered scientific exchange between researchers from the BioSense Institute and ICN2, one of Europe’s leading research centers in nanoscience and nanotechnology, while further strengthening collaboration and knowledge transfer within the Know4Nano network.
The Know4Nano consortium is proud to support the dissemination of cutting-edge research and international cooperation that contributes to advancing excellence in nanotechnology, biosensing, and related fields.
