Antonio Varriale was born in Napoli in 1978. He received his degree in Industrial Biotechnology in 2004 at the University of Napoli “Federico II” and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of Perugia in 2009. He works in the Laboratory for Molecular Sensing headed by Dr. Sabato D’Auria at the Institute of Food Science (ISA-CNR). His research interest is the study of the structure/function relationship of biomolecules (protein, enzyme, antibody, etc.) using advanced spectroscopy techniques (Fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, surface plasmon resonance, etc.) and their use as molecular recognition elements (MREs) in the development of optical biosensors for the determination of analytes of agri-food and environmental interest. He has been involved in several European and national project and he has coauthors of 92 publications in peer-reviewed journals (1454 citations, H-index: 24 – Scopus source).
